Madhuri Dixit has opened up about the early days of her relationship with Dr Shriram Nene, offering rare insight into how the two met, fell in love, and chose marriage after a six-month courtship. Speaking on The Ranveer Show podcast, the Bollywood icon stated clearly that theirs was a love marriage, not an arranged setup, despite popular assumptions.
In the interview, Madhuri reflected on a time when her personal life was often a subject of interest for friends and fans. She said that those close to her tried playing matchmaker regularly, but her attention remained on her acting career. She admitted to being cautious about choosing a partner, believing that one wrong relationship could jeopardise her life’s joy and professional freedom.
Madhuri explained that her brother was the person who introduced her to Dr Nene, but the couple spent six months dating before making any commitment. This dating phase helped them discover shared values built around empathy, intellect and common purpose. She described their relationship as “a great combination of art and science”, highlighting a balance of creativity and care that shaped their bond.
The actress also spoke warmly about Dr Nene’s qualities, recalling how his bedside manner, compassion for patients, and intellectual depth first attracted her. She called him well-read, thoughtful, and naturally caring, with creative interests like photography. Madhuri said that her husband has been a greater blessing than her career, because success feels incomplete when it cannot be shared with someone meaningful.

During the conversation, she dismissed playful assumptions about “casting a spell” on Dr Nene, instead crediting genuine compatibility for the strength of their marriage. She revealed that during the COVID lockdown, he even learned camera skills to film her music video Candle, demonstrating the willingness to support her creatively.
The couple married in 1999, moved to the United States, and raised their sons Arin and Ryan before returning to Mumbai in 2011. Since then, Madhuri has balanced family life with a renewed phase of her acting career.

Her next project, Mrs Deshpande, marks a darker shift in her screen persona. The psychological thriller sees Madhuri playing a convicted serial killer helping authorities track a copycat. Directed by Nagesh Kukunoor, the series is an adaptation of the French drama La Mante and is set to premiere on JioHotstar on 19 December 2025.
Madhuri’s reflections underline a narrative rarely highlighted in celebrity culture: relationships built steadily rather than sensationally, grounded in mutual respect and thoughtful partnership. Her story offers a different lens on love, identity and the choices that shape a life beyond stardom.
