  • Spider-Man: Brand New Day Tops Box Office for Sixth Straight Week

Spider-Man: Brand New Day continues its extraordinary run at the global box office, remaining in the No. 1 position for a sixth consecutive week and further strengthening its status as one of Hollywood’s biggest recent blockbusters.

The Sony superhero film reportedly added another $18 million during the latest weekend, taking its worldwide box-office total to an estimated $2.4 billion.

The movie comfortably led the weekend rankings, finishing nearly $5 million ahead of Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey, which remained in second place.

The Odyssey reportedly earned $13 million domestically over the weekend, bringing its worldwide total to approximately $1.63 billion. More than $1 billion of Nolan’s reported global earnings has come from international markets.

Coyote vs. Acme secured third place with $11.3 million, while By Any Means followed in fourth with $7.4 million.

The rest of the top 10 included Insidious: Out of the Further, which earned $6.5 million to take fifth place.

The 20th-anniversary theatrical return of Cars followed closely behind, collecting $6.1 million and securing sixth position.

Buddy ranked seventh with $5.7 million, while PAW Patrol: The Dino Movie earned $3.3 million for eighth place.

The End of Oak Street took ninth with $2.9 million, while The Dog Stars completed the weekend’s top 10 with $2.7 million.

The reported weekend box-office rankings were:

    3Coyote vs. Acme$11.3 million

9The End of Oak Street$2.9 million

While the performance of major franchises has dominated headlines, the weekend also delivered an unexpected result from the low-budget dark comedy Buddy.

Made for a reported budget of just $3 million, Buddy climbed to seventh place with $5.7 million in weekend ticket sales.

More notably, its earnings increased by around 5% compared with the previous weekend. The film has reportedly collected $14.3 million domestically after two weeks, giving the modestly budgeted production a strong early theatrical run.

The latest results arrive during what is being described as one of Hollywood’s strongest summer box-office periods since the years before the COVID-19 pandemic.

The domestic box office has reportedly reached approximately $4.6 billion, representing a 26% increase compared with the same period last summer.

The improvement offers an encouraging sign for cinemas that have faced several challenges in recent years. Streaming growth, production disruptions, labour disputes and changing audience habits have all affected the traditional theatrical business.

The strong performance of Spider-Man: Brand New Day and The Odyssey suggests that audiences continue to respond strongly to major theatrical releases when high-profile films offer a reason to return to cinemas.

At the same time, the performance of smaller productions such as Buddy indicates that audiences are not only interested in expensive franchise films.

With Spider-Man: Brand New Day maintaining its six-week box-office reign and Hollywood recording a significantly stronger summer market, the latest figures are providing fresh optimism about the future of theatrical cinema.

The continued performance of major blockbusters could also encourage studios to invest further in large-scale releases, while the success of lower-budget films may create opportunities for a wider variety of movies to find audiences in cinemas.
