Veteran Bollywood actor Govardhan Asrani, lovingly known as Asrani, will return to the big screen one final time in 2026 through two posthumous film releases. The legendary comic star passed away on October 20 at the age of 84 after a prolonged illness, leaving behind a body of work spanning nearly six decades and close to 350 films.
Shortly after his passing, Akshay Kumar revealed that Asrani had completed work on two upcoming films — Bhooth Bangla and Haiwaan — both of which are slated for release in 2026. Paying tribute on social media, Akshay shared that he had recently met the late actor on the sets of Haiwaan, describing their final interaction as warm and emotional.
“Speechless with grief at the passing of Asrani ji,” Akshay wrote on X (formerly Twitter). “We had just shared the warmest of hugs a week back at the shoot of Haiwaan. He had the most legendary comic timing.”
The superstar went on to reflect on working alongside Asrani in numerous hits, including Hera Pheri, Bhagam Bhag, De Dana Dan, Welcome, and Khatta Meetha. He praised the veteran for his influence on generations of actors and his unmatched command over comedy in Indian cinema.
“Asrani ji gave us a million reasons to laugh,” Akshay added, calling his death “an absolute loss to our industry.”
Both of the late actor’s final films — Bhooth Bangla and Haiwaan — are directed by acclaimed filmmaker Priyadarshan, one of Asrani’s longtime collaborators. Their partnership has produced some of Bollywood’s most iconic comedy roles, making these posthumous performances even more emotionally significant for fans.
Asrani rose to iconic status with his unforgettable performances in classics like Sholay and Chupke Chupke before becoming a staple in 90s and 2000s comedy films. His passing marks the end of a remarkable era in Hindi cinema, but his final on-screen appearances will serve as a tribute to his enduring legacy.
Fans and colleagues alike are now looking toward 2026 as an opportunity to celebrate his final bow on the silver screen.
