During a guest appearance on Mazaq Raat, veteran television personality Hina Khawaja Bayat shared heartfelt insights about the pressures of celebrity life, the downsides of mobile dependence, and the cultural shifts in family values.
Bayat, who has long been respected for her thoughtful roles and social commentary, didn’t shy away from highlighting the emotional harm caused by the public’s intrusion into celebrities’ private lives. “Critique my work, yes — but don’t target me as a person,” she urged, reminding audiences that actors, too, grapple with vulnerabilities.
Her observations then turned toward the societal impact of technology and smartphones. Bayat lamented the erosion of genuine interaction, stating, “You’ll find families sitting together but disconnected — each lost in their screens, texting instead of speaking.”
She emphasized that although mobile devices offer convenience, their unchecked usage undermines interpersonal relationships and contributes to a culture of emotional distancing. “It’s almost become a sickness,” she remarked.
Touching on the changing nature of hospitality, Bayat recalled how, in the past, guests were met with generosity and enthusiasm. Now, however, she sees a marked shift. Visits are considered disruptions, often due to over-scheduled lifestyles or academic pressures on children.
Bayat also gave viewers a glimpse into her unexpected journey into acting. Initially discouraged from joining the media by her father, she only stepped into the industry after being persuaded by television pioneer Sultana Siddiqui, marking the start of a successful career in Pakistan’s entertainment landscape.
