  • Sandra Bullock Returns for Practical Magic Sequel: Cast, Director, and What to Expect

After more than 25 years, the Owens family is ready to enchant the screen once again. Practical Magic 2 has been greenlit, with Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman stepping back into their iconic roles as Sally and Gillian Owens—two witches navigating love, loss, and legacy.

Fans of the original will be thrilled to hear that Dianne Wiest and Stockard Channing are also returning as the formidable, mystical aunts. Their eccentric wisdom and loving guardianship were a highlight of the first film, and their presence ensures continuity of the original’s charm.

Director Susanne Bier is at the helm of the sequel, bringing her signature touch from acclaimed works like The Night Manager. The screenplay is being co-written by Akiva Goldsman and Georgia Pritchett, promising a balance between nostalgia and narrative expansion.

Joining the Owens family tale are Joey King, Lee Pace, Maisie Williams, Solly McLeod, and Xolo Maridueña. While character details are under wraps, casting rumors suggest a generational handoff. King may portray one of Sally’s daughters, perhaps Kylie—a role played by Evan Rachel Wood in the 1998 film. However, Wood confirmed she will not be returning, as the role is being reimagined.

Practical Magic 2 is slated for release on September 18, 2026, under Warner Bros. Speculation is swirling that the sequel could incorporate elements from Alice Hoffman’s The Book of Magic, which ties together decades of Owens family lore.

With an updated ensemble and returning icons, the sequel aims to weave new magic while honoring a cult classic.
