  • Sydney Sweeney Open to Barbie Sequel—But Not as the Main Barbie

Amid increasing speculation about the future of Greta Gerwig’s Barbie franchise, Sydney Sweeney has offered her candid take on whether she’d join the upcoming sequel.

The 26-year-old actress is currently in high demand, balancing multiple major projects including the biographical drama The Housemaid and the third season of the hit series Euphoria. When asked if she would consider taking on the title role in a Barbie sequel, Sweeney responded with both enthusiasm and respect.

“Of course I’d be interested—who wouldn’t be?” she said. “But I’m a big fan of Margot Robbie and what she brought to that character. I wouldn’t want to step on that.”

Sweeney suggested a compromise that would still allow her to enter the Barbie universe. She said she’d be open to playing Barbie’s sister, a fresh addition to the vibrant world built in the first film.

Released in July 2023, the original Barbie film became an instant cultural landmark. Directed by Greta Gerwig and co-written by Noah Baumbach, it grossed over $1.4 billion worldwide and earned critical praise for its innovative approach to gender and identity.

Alongside Robbie and Ryan Gosling, the film featured a dynamic ensemble including Simu Liu, Will Ferrell, Rhea Perlman, and Issa Rae.

With Gerwig’s vision now a proven box-office force, expectations for a sequel remain high—and fans are curious to see whether Sydney Sweeney might bring a new dynamic to Barbie Land.
