Amid geopolitical tensions and artistic bans, Sardaar Ji 3 has become a box office success in Pakistan, marking a promising debut for popular actress Hania Aamir in Punjabi-language cinema. Co-starring with global Punjabi music icon Diljit Dosanjh, Aamir’s entry has generated immense buzz, driving large audiences to theatres nationwide.
The horror-comedy, which released internationally on June 27, skipped a theatrical launch in India due to the renewed ban on Pakistani talent in Bollywood. The film’s decision to premiere in overseas markets, including Pakistan, has proven fruitful, with early screenings reporting housefull status.
Political Barriers Don’t Stop Cinematic Appeal
The film’s release comes in the wake of the Pahalgam attack in April, which led to at least 26 casualties. As tensions rose, the Film Federation of Western Indian Cinema (FWIC) reinstated restrictions on collaboration with Pakistani artists, directly impacting Sardaar Ji 3. Despite the controversy, the filmmakers moved ahead with global distribution—excluding India—and embraced markets such as the UK, Canada, and Pakistan.
Helmed by Amar Hundal, the movie also features a strong supporting cast including Neeru Bajwa, Jasmin Bajwa, and Gulshan Grover, adding further appeal across Punjabi-speaking audiences globally.
Star Power and Fan Anticipation Fuel Box Office Momentum
Hania Aamir’s involvement elevated anticipation, especially after her memorable appearance on stage with Diljit Dosanjh in London last year. That brief moment of shared spotlight sparked fan speculation about an on-screen pairing, which Sardaar Ji 3 finally fulfilled.
Audiences in Pakistan responded with overwhelming enthusiasm, praising Aamir’s versatility and natural chemistry with Dosanjh. The film’s local success hints at a growing demand for cross-border creative ventures, even as political constraints remain.
As Sardaar Ji 3 continues its theatrical run, it stands as both a cultural moment and a cinematic victory in Pakistan’s entertainment landscape.
