Global music sensation Ed Sheeran has revealed plans to leave the United Kingdom and settle in the United States with his family. The decision comes after recent controversy surrounding his comments on cultural identity, where he described himself as feeling “culturally Irish” despite being born in England.
Ed Sheeran’s Connection to Irish Roots
Sheeran explained that his father hails from Belfast, and much of his upbringing was surrounded by Irish music. Speaking on the 2 Johnnies Podcast, he noted that his identity and creative inspiration have long been tied to his Irish heritage. These remarks, however, drew mixed reactions from fans, with some questioning his cultural claims.
Why Sheeran is Moving to the US
The Perfect hit-maker admitted that balancing family life with international tours has become difficult. “I’m just about to move to America. I feel like I might be the only person moving to America. I’m going on tour there for a while and I have a family so I can’t dip in and out. We’re going and settling there,” Sheeran said.
Sheeran already owns a £9 million apartment in New York, part of his estimated £70 million property empire. Until now, he primarily lived at his Suffolk estate, famously nicknamed “Sheeranville,” with his wife Cherry Seaborn and their daughters.
Nashville: Sheeran’s Dream Destination
While he did not disclose the exact US city he plans to move to, Sheeran has previously expressed his admiration for Nashville. Known as the heart of country music, the city has long been his “end goal” for relocation. Earlier this year, Sheeran remarked, “When you transition to country, you can’t transition back. Nashville is my favorite city in the States and it’s always been my end goal to move there.”
Fans React to the Announcement
The news of his move has sparked debate among fans. While many support his decision to prioritize family and career stability, others accuse him of inconsistency over his cultural statements. Despite the criticism, Sheeran appears determined to take this next step in both his personal life and professional journey.
